MSCET Themes

Theme 1
Technical Skills

The first theme that I chose was Technical Skills.   I chose this theme because I feel that it is very important element of all education, traditional and distance ed.  With the courses that I took throughout this program, technical skills were very evident.  Whether it was installing software to enhance learning or learning new hardware troubleshooting skills, all the technical skills I learned were an essential component of my success in class and helpful for me in future endeavors.  The skills I took from this program will help me to be an educator who is "up with the times" as far as technology goes.  I was very interested in learning more hardware and networking skills through this program.  They will be vital for my future.

Theme 2
Collaborative Learning

The next theme that I selected was Collaborative Learning.  This theme has been important throughout my entire time at DSU, graduate and undergrad.  The classes I have taken have all stressed the importance of collaborative learning and allowed us to participate in situations the fostered it.  This program has also shown me the power of collaborative learning as a tool to get the best out of students.

Theme 3
Instructional Design

My final theme included Instructional Design due to the fact of it's importance for both online learning and the traditional classroom.   Through these courses I was able to learn different strategies for learning from the instructor and student points of view.  The layout of a course can make or break the success for a student.  With technology constantly changing instructors must stay on top of the latest technological advancements.  Everyone learns in their own unique way and by learning different teaching strategies through design, educators can make learning that much better with the different tools they are provided to teach with.
